We went to see Mary when we were in financial distress. At the time she was working primarily as a financial coach, and so it made sense to us; we certainly didn't need "counseling" as our marriage was just fine. How does one commit to extra spending on counseling when the problem is financial? We gambled on the concept that the long term benefits would out-weigh the short term financial pressures; we were not disappointed.

As time went on, we found that Mary's observations of our situation were acute and she helped us focus on some of the root causes that lead to our current financial situation--ironically not financial in nature. She was able to guide our conversations, through a safe and comfortable environment where we could express our feelings and concerns and she provided constructive, informed, and objective opinions on our issues.
